Media Bias

The above images are some examples of bias in media. By "bias in media" i mean, how the media has attempted and is attempting to influence society into believing something that is not original or true. For example, in the second/centre cartoon image, media has shown people how great Obama is as a president, and how much the people appreciate and like him for what he is capable of. However, those are not fans or citizens, infact, they are the 'biased media'. “It’s the most disgusting failure of people in our business since the Iraq war,” Halperin said. “It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage.” However, the question always remains unanswered. Should we trust the media?

Double-edged media

As we saw in the previous documentary about an American football player who has volunteered himself to participate in the U.S. military, and how he built his heroism through the critical decisions and sacrifices he made for the success of the misison. However, his colleagues and leaders have managed to manipulate the truth of his death, mainly through media. Here is a picture of how media can manipulate our viewpoint of things. This image represents the double-edged media. Where two soldiers here are trying to show that they are helping the hostage/refugee by giving him water as he was suffering "from thirst", however, they got a rifle pointed at his head. This illustrates that they are just trying to keep him alive for the sake of keeping him as hostage, or draining whatever information he got.

The Arab/Muslim Stereotype

The dissemination of news changes the way we learn about other cultures in terms of politics, economies, and values. Especially, when they go viral. An example would be the arab stereotype of being 'terrorists'. It may have started from a war perspective, and now every arab is viewed as a terrorist, mainly if they were MUSLIM. This has also been spread out through movies and news, where they always show arabs as being the violent and aggressive ones. Therefore, implanting the arab/muslim image as terrorists in society's mind. For your information, not all arabs are muslims and not all muslims are arabs. Result is, not all arabs/muslims are so called 'terrorists'.
